Chapter 9: Living the Dream

Not every teenage boy or girl can live their dream. Many people claim they don’t know what they’re going to do with their lives later on down the road, while others have a pretty good idea of what they want and set their minds to it. Since I was a little girl I had always said, “I want to be a dance teacher and have my very own studio.” I’ve been dancing since the age of two and I am determined to make this happen. Later on I may learn on how crazy the dance world may be, but I know I can handle it.

Dancing everyday is what I can only imagine is the perfect ideal dream. Last year, I found out that I would be teaching a Hip-Hop class by myself. My heart started racing with excitement like a racecar driver had just passed the finish line. Teaching has always been a dream of mine and to find out I would finally be teaching changed my whole life.

So I'm a teacher?

Teaching has its ups and downs due to all of the parents that stare in the window at me. Getting over the looks, takes a lot of time getting used to. Now I just look at the parents and smile as big as I can. Even though parents can seem intimidating, never show fear in the body. Standing the ground of a new dance teacher is rather hard, but you have to stick to what you say and mean what you say. Enjoying the looks of excitement on little girls’ faces makes me like a little kid in a candy store. They love dancing just about as much as I do myself. Some may have all the moves down while others may not, but the others are trying their hardest and just dancing with their very own passion. Expressing feelings throughout the song makes the dance more interesting to watch. The smiles on the faces of four and five- year- olds are why I love my job.

Chapter 6: Being Reunited
Miss Christain
Miss Christain

When I was 12 years old, I was beside myself when my dance teacher of eight years left our studio. We had developed a bond that not everyone had experienced. We became closer and closer, and I never thought I would have to deal with someone leaving me at such a young age. Telling my family that my actual dance teacher was leaving me for a dance team called the 76ers was a disappointment. The girls and I were upset about her leaving and didn’t want another dance teacher to come in and take her place. Going through nine or ten dance teachers in the span of seven years was rather tough. We all knew she was never going to be coming back.
Moving into a brand new studio was not as fun we thought it would be. All the memories we had were now going to be left behind and we were going to have to make new ones. It was odd being at the studio with cheerleaders. I felt that if it was going to be a dance studio, it should strictly be for dancers only. People were mean to us dancers; we didn’t fit in well and wanted to go back to our old place.
As years went by, we started to feel like we were at home once again. Memories upon memories had been made, but we knew there were going to be more we went through so many teachers throughout the years and were finally told that we had found one that was going to become permanent. All of the girls were wondered who it could be and had so many ideas of who it could be. I received a text from one of my close girlfriends, telling me what she had heard. I couldn’t believe what she said. Kenzie had told me that our dance teacher Christian, was going to be our new teacher. I was so excited and started jumping up and down. We were all at a dance intensive when I saw this lady walk in. I had no idea who it was, but I knew I had seen her before. It was Miss Christian. I was overcome with joy and excitement in my heart. Being reunited with her was one of the best things I ever experienced. I knew our close bond was once again going to become closer than ever. Being with her for the past two years, I have never felt so safe, not only do I trust her, but I love her as well. She and I are pretty much like mother and daughter you could say. Or maybe even big sis and little sis. She is the only person I can tell anything to, and she knows just what to do or how to help me out when I need it.

Where were you born?
1. I was born in Pekin, Illionis on January 22nd, 1993. Born at 5:55 in the morning putting my mother through a whole lot of pain like someone taking a hammer to your stomach(Simile). Even though it was a long process, I was finally on my way out. Living in a small home in Marquette Heights, we were the perfect family anyone could have ever asked for.

How do you feel right now?
3. I would like to go home and get ready for this stupid birthday party that I have to work tonight. Then I'll go home and get online to check my facebook page, text a few people, and call it a night. I don't have anthing else to do besides clean my room, I would rather sleep since I haven't really had any this week. Perhaps the more I sleep the closer I'll be to becoming 5'2 instead of an 8th of an inch.

What kind of car do you drive?
2. I drive a 2001 black Ponitic Grande Prix. It has all black leather seating and gets rather hot in the summer. My dad always teased me about driving the "Batman Car" and it drove me crazy. Until one day I decided to name her, her name is Betty. My dad asked me "Why would you name the car Betty? That just sounds stupid." I looked at him and said "Black Betty, duh! Get it? You know like the song Black Betty?" He looked at me and told me "Now, that's rather clever I must say." So from being a so called "boy car", she ended up getting a great name. Betty reminds me of a cheeta running to catch it's prey as it sinks its' teeth into the body.(Personification and Imagery) I love this car so much, even though I would so rather be in my BMW.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
4. When I grow up I want to be a dance teacher with her very own studio. This may not sound like a very exciting job, but I love it. Teaching is what I love and if you love something, like I was told "If you love something, you might as well persue it." Hearing those words, made my heart jump up and down with so much joy I could have peed my pants! When someone tells me something I love to hear, it makes me want to jump up and kiss them right on the mouth. (Alliteration) Having this dream since I was about ten or eleven years old, people thought I was crazy. Some may believe me while others think I'm full of crap, but I'm ready to prove them wrong.

I can't live without_.
5. I could not live without my family. They mean so much to me and I love them to death. Life without them would be pretty sucky, not going to lie. Though we have our ups and downs, which everyone does,I couldn't ask for anything better. I'd never learn the things they have taught me, enjoy all the times we have and spend together, and dumb inside family jokes.

What's your biggest flaw?
6. My biggest flaw would be my nervses getting the best of me. When I step out onto the floor for a basketball game, I'm completely fine, but when it comes to the stage. FORGET IT! You would think I'd be over this by now since I've done this since I was eight years old. I can't watch the girls I'm competiting against because I freak myself out. So much I start forgetting what my dance is. My teacher looks at me and tells me that I need to start taking my own advice that I tell the younger girls. I tell them "You'll be fine, just relax, enjoy yourself, and have a good time." Trying to stay confident, doesn't always turn out the way I would like it to be. Maybe if I started listening to myself, I may become more happier with stage presents.

When your phone rings, who do you want it to be?
7. I would have to say Lauren Stevenson because no matter what the topic of the conversation may be, she finds a way to make everything funny. I can talk to her about pretty much anything and we're pretty good about giving one another good advice. Sometimes she acts older than I do, but that only happens once in a blue moon. Her and I have developed a close releationship and we will always be close no matter what happens with the two of us.

Do you believe everyone deserves a second chance? Why or Why not?
8. Yes, the reason for that would be for break ups and friendships. If the person does something mean and hurtful to you and doesn't say anything about it or just lets it go, you have no need to give them a second chance. If they come to you and do everything to fix the problem, you know that you can trust them to try a new start. But if they are your true friend, they would never do anything to hurt you.

If abandoned in the wilderness, would you survive? Explain.
9. I would not survive what so ever. Just because I was a Girl Scout when I was younger, doesn't mean that I would make it. With my luck I'd end up like Tom Hanks' volleyball Wilson. I'm known as the girly girl who doesn't like to get dirty and is constantly looking at her shoes to see if dirt or mud got on them. The weather would end up getting the best of me and I could not live without my cell phone and charger, clothes, purses, and bed. I love my room way to much and would like to stay there:)

Describe your best friend.
10. My best friend is the same height as myself, act just alike it's rather scary, and if I wouldn't have met her, I don't know what I would be like to this day. Her and I have so much in common, I could go on forever. She has been there for me no matter what has happened. Through our ups and downs we have developed a stronger friendship than ever. As we go our seperate ways throughout life, she will always be my best friend I've ever had. She knows I'm only a phone call away and I love her dearly. I really wish she was staying here for school, but instead she's going off to Vermont for softball. Let the tears fall of sadness, but she knows that it's not a good bye, it's simply a see you later.
